Dedicated to Their Work
Each of the horses at Equine-Assisted Therapies of South Florida is part of a working herd and are the true heroes of our equine therapy program. They provide the base of our programming for children and adults with special needs, with duties that include working with individual riders during Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy (physical therapy), and as support animals for Unmounted Horsemanship and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy sessions.
Finding horses that can do this important work is no easy feat. A typical horse may have up to 5 single owners in their lifetime. At EATSF, our horses have to be patient enough to work with the dozens of volunteers that they may see each week. Just like humans, each horse has a different body shape which produces a different movement for riding. It is important that EATSF maintains a herd with different movements, reactions, and personalities so that our participants can experience the full breadth of riding and partnering with horses.
